Used or previously owned equipment is an alternative to buying expensive original gear. Investing in genuine DJ equipment costs a bomb and this is a severe impediment to those who are planning to take up disc jockeying as a career but haven't made the final decision yet. Essential parts of the DJ equipment are turntables; CD, MP3 or DVD players; and sound mixers. Each of these parts costs hundreds of dollars and can really set back the budget. However, the consolation is that all these parts are available in used condition at lower rates and in fairly good qualities.
Most stores retail their used equipment online. There are also individuals who want to get rid of their old equipment and they advertise for them online. Internet advertisements for previously owned equipment contain the names of the equipment along with names of the makers and their versions. Features present with the gear are mentioned. It is considered ethical to mention the period for which the stuff has been in use and what kind of use it was - light or heavy. Sometimes, pictures of the appliance are posted along with the advertisement.
Portals like eBay sell several items of used DJ equipment. There are various other websites like Birdland Music, Calibex, Tom Lee Music, Pro Mix, etc. which are dedicated only to selling new and used DJ equipment. Some of these websites require registration to buy and sell equipment. Funds are exchanged through wire transfer and transactions can be either worldwide or local.
Apart from online transactions, there are many music stores who stock used DJ equipment. Even peripheral components like headphones and speakers can be obtained at extremely low prices.
Sellers of used equipment usually tweak equipment before reselling them. This includes improvement of their quality as well as amelioration of their looks. This is called refurbishing the equipment and is a very common practice employed by used equipment sellers. Due to this, they can charge a few extra dollars from the second customer and earn their profit.
Buying used equipment is entirely at the buyer's risk. In most cases, there are no guarantees and warranties, and it is made clear to the buyer that all liabilities are at their sole risk. Some store owners do not issue a receipt of the sale. Even insurance companies shirk from covering used equipment. It must not be expected from used equipment that they would function for a long time.
However this is not true most of the time. Sometimes professional DJs keep selling their equipment and buying new ones whenever they are launched with additional features. Such equipment is rarely used and is almost as good as the original.

A lot of the times, people come into my home studio to record something and they see all the equipment and ask - "how can I do something like this?!" Well for starters, you can start purchasing the equipment! Then once you have the equipment all hooked up, you can learn how to use the equipment!
If you're like me, you've been dreaming about having a home recording studio for a very long time. Well the great thing about it is, it's very possible to HAVE your own recording studio even if you are on a budget. Will it rival the recording studio's of Sony? Nope, but it will do the job, and make sure your customers are proud to say they record in it.
First and foremost, you need to go out and purchase a GOOD computer with ton of space (1TB and up), a decent amount of ram (4GB and up) and a processor that won't crash on ya while you're recording somebody singing. Once you have those three things down, you HAVE to invest in a good sound card! There are different sound cards out there ranging anywhere from 20 dollars, to 200 dollars, and if you think you're going to be creating studio-like sounds with a 20 dollar sound card, prepared to be surprised! Next you will need to purchase or download a program that will be able to handle your productions. I have personally used everything and anything under the sun, and I will say this, for amateurs, stick to Cool Edit Pro the OLD version which I believe is 2.1. It is a GREAT program, no matter how outdated it may seem. For the more experienced, I would go with something among the lines of Cubase, which is truly a powerful and revolutionary software.
Once you have the computer, the sound card, and a recording program, under your belt, you can go ahead and start looking at the goodies. First things first, get a solid studio condenser microphone. Personally, I would recommend the Audio Technica AT2020 Side Address Cardiod Condensor Studio Mic because it is the ABSOLUTE best when it comes to a starter microphone. Don't let that be confused with "crappy microphone," far from it, the AT2020 is a working man's microphone that can be tweeked until the singer's vocals are as sweet as honey.
After you get the studio microphone, you have to purchase an amplifier. The great thing about the amps is that they are not TOO pricey, and seeing as how we are building a home studio on a budget, you can go ahead and purchase the Pyle Pro PT210 120-Watt Microphone PA Mono Amplifier with 70-Volt Output because it will be more then enough with the AT2020. You can go ahead and purchase a mixer and a soundboard, but for now, we are only focusing on the essentials for your home studio.
Usually what people do is they get a good computer, get a good studio microphone, and a solid amp, and they are all psyched up. Well here's the kicker, you need a microphone stand, a good pop filter, and possibly a vocal booth before you can even consider inviting anybody over. The microphone stand and the pop filter will cost you tops, but creating a vocal booth could be a challenge.
First and foremost, you need to designate a room (or some space) where you plan to have your recording home studio. If you do not want to actually build a vocal booth, then you can go ahead and use a mini closet. Simply clear out all of the clothes from it, purchase some foam so your vocals don't bounce off the walls, and put the condenser microphone in there. The cable should be long enough to connect back to your computer, where you will be controlling the entire process. When on a budget, I am a fan of the closet vocal booth because it makes the vocals extremely warm and smooth sounding, which you really can't achieve if your studio microphone is in an open room such as your living room.
That is pretty much it. If on a budget and you want to create a home recording studio, keep in mind the following things:
1. A good computer (with a good sound card and a good recording software program)
2. A good condenser studio microphone (Audio Technica AT2020)
3. A good amplifier (Pyle Pro PT210 120-Watt Microphone PA Mono Amplifier
Although this set up won't make Def Jam jealous, it will give you the foundations on which you can build upon. Bit by bit, you can purchase more things such as soundboards, mixers, better studio microphones, etc., and have your studio grow. Until then, sticking the foundations and really learning the basics will suffice.
A few years ago, installing a touch screen monitor in your car was something you either saw in the movies or on those wacky, tricked out cars built especially for science fairs. Now nearly all of the newer cars come with them factory installed or at least they can be installed aftermarket quite easily. Through these monitors, drivers can program their GPS navigational system, control their Bluetooth, and set all of their stereo channels all with the tap of your fingertip.
There are a few different ways to have these put in your car too. The most common two are either an in-dash setup keeps the factory look of the car. Then there is the set up which uses a motorized panel frame to fold out of the dash and then in an upward and visible position. Here is a step by step breakdown of how you can install a touch screen monitor system into your car on you own.
The first thing you'll need to do is take a look at your car's dashboard and figure out if it has a double DIN setup or the single DIN setup. It's pretty easy to spot if you know what you are looking for. The double DIN setup for your car's dashboard will allow you to mount a touch screen monitor system which lies flush with the dash. A single DIN setup will not allow this and require you to install a monitor that flips up.
Make sure you have all the right tools to go along with the installation kit and wiring harness you should have previously purchased. Any place that sells car audio systems or offers installation services will have these for sale. If your vehicle does have an installation kit made for it, then roll up your sleeves because you have some work ahead of you in the form of alterations to your dash.
Now you'll need to get underneath the car's hood to disconnect the battery cables from the battery. You'll again need the right size tools to take care of this.
Take the old head unit out. Depending on the make of the car, you'll probably need to remove a few of the dash panels to do this. The old head unit will be held in there with mounting screws. Take these out and the stereo should slide right out of the dash. Once out, disconnect all of the wires and the antenna from it.
Now that you have all the old equipment out of the car, start install all of the new hardware and the touch screen with the installation kit. Seat it securely into the kit so it won't slide out and possibly break.
Now that the monitor is all set to go in the installation kit and ready to be put back into the dash, connect all the car's wires to the preinstalled wiring harness which should already be attached to the touch screen monitor. Connect the audio/video cable to the monitor and always check the user manual if you aren't sure where it goes.
Ok. You're all wired up and ready to go. Now you need to install the monitor back into the dashboard. Of all the steps this is the easiest since it's almost the last one. Secure into the car by tightening all of the screws and replace the dash panels once you've finished doing that.
Reconnect the battery cables back up and start up the car to test out the monitor. If everything went smoothly during the installation, the screen should light up.
